The maximum time one catches the smoke
detectors are at rest rooms or in aircrafts, which have strict rules. So
that anyone trying to smoke a cigarette on the sly can be fined. This is
just a small area of convenience that one can get for the use of these
simple devices. There are different kinds of smoke detectors available
in the market. A smoke detector being used in the home usually runs on
9-volt alkaline battery.
House owners have to remove the batteries
once they (batteries) die or else the device is rendered ineffective.
Since most of the smoke detectors are installed at the time of
construction there are some laws that one needs to know before
installation.
In India smoke detectors can be found in five star hotels, clubs,
restrooms and any other establishments, which can be potentially
hazardous if it catches fire. Smoke detectors usually get activated only
when a sufficient quantity of smoke is emitted. Therefore some times
when a fire erupts it takes longer for the authorities to get cautioned.
Nowadays-new type of smoke detectors in India has
been introduced in the market. These are armed with photodiode or a
photoelectric sensor. Inside the device there is a light beam. This beam
gets scattered when smoke enters. It is fitted with an alarm, which goes
off. This in turn alerts one to smoke signals at early stages.
One can
find these smoke detectors in gyms and auditoriums. These are called
optical smoke detectors. They can detect the right source of fire that
is likely to cause damage. They do not get activated easily –for
instance if there is a cooking fire in the kitchen or steam emerging
from the geyser in the bathroom. This prevents the occurrence of any
false alarms.
Other type of smoke detectors includes ionization. They have radioactive
elements so in some places they are not recommended. The most common is
the UV detector type used in aircrafts and restrooms. It is immediately
triggered as a flame is lit. Smoke detectors are best placed in the hall
ceilings or near bedroom doors or ceiling. Keep them away from the
kitchen and bathroom for obvious reasons.
